Isabelle (23): our favourite thing is exploring the Jordaan

"How many outings has this been now? I couldn't tell you, my memory's a bit like Swiss cheese, but it's just as much fun as always!" laughs Hans. Isabelle lists the outings: theatre, De Ceuvel, a photography course at the Hortus Botanicus.

A highlight was Herman van Veen at Carré. Hans: "He writes such beautiful lyrics, so sensitive." Isabelle: "Playing violin, singing, dancing, writing poetry — Herman still gives it everything he's got."

Hans learned something from his father that he passed on to Isabelle: "Look in the mirror every morning, give yourself a thumbs up, and smile at yourself." Isabelle, in turn, learns from his grateful and positive outlook on life.

Walking is a favourite pastime — preferably through the Jordaan. "A friendly neighbourhood where people still greet each other on the street," says Isabelle.

The age gap is no obstacle. Hans: "Isabelle is like family, we love each other." Isabelle: "I couldn't agree more!"
